Again this year, I went off to Denmark to work on the big screen productions at the biggest festivals. I was hired in as producer and camera operator for the new Tinderbox festival in Odense and for the long time running Roskilde Festival.

Tinderbox Festival – The New Kid in on the Block

As this was the very first time Tinderbox was to be held, everybody on the crew was excited to see how it would hold up against the other music festivals. And let me say: It was great. Very few hiccups during its 3 day run, and all got sorted out professionally and quick.

For a new festival, Tinderbox opened with a very strong set of headliners spread over 4 stages. The 2 biggest stages, Red and Blue, were running in tandem. When the music stopped on one, it would continue on the other 10-15 minutes later. We produced both stages on Streamline Medias excellent OB-van. That worked great, apart from the 3600 meter triax cables we had to run from red to blue stage. The whole production was coordinated by my old friend and colleague Jens Villebro from STV.

I had the pleasure to do camera work on some of my favourite acts, like:The Cardigans, Passenger, The Prodigy and Faith No More. Faith No More provided me with a nice white outfit to easier blend into their all white stage setup.

One of the most memorable experiences was to produce the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club show, as they are one of my favourite bands. As usual the festivals are a great place to discover new (at least new to me) music. All Time Low is already on heavy rotation on my iTunes player.

Big Screen & Live streaming

A lot of the concerts were not only showed on to the big screen, but also broadcast on TV2. And will be available to stream on TV2-Play. The big challenge here is that the planing is different. The TV broadcast is in standard 16:9 HD but the big screens are vertical. So as a camera operator you are centre framing for the vertical screen, but making sure there is some background for the wide screen image at the same time.

Other shows I had the pleasure to do at Tinderbox: Rival Sons, Hozier, Modest Mouse, Milky Chance, Julius Moon, Angel Haze, Joey Bada$$, Topgunn, Royal Blood, The Gaslight Anthem.
