After a well received Tinderbox festival in Odense it was time to turn my attention to the largest music festival in northern Europe, Roskilde Festival.
Roskilde Festival – That Orange Feeling
It was my 22nd Roskilde Festival in a row. Every year i proclaim it will be the last time, and every year i go back. I feel like an old circus horse that can’t live without the smell of saw dust. Coming back to Roskilde year after year, I can see the development of the festival, but also how everything stays the same.
It was a brand new production crew this year. Even with a couple of faces I had seen before, it seemed like a whole new beast. This year we produced all the concerts on Orange stage on a fly-away kit in a container. Media-Tec had custom made the setup for Roskilde festival, and I must say it worked like a charm.
Orange Stage – Home of the Biggest Acts
Roskilde is the king of all music festivals. Its big, busy and has the most varied music of any festival I have ever been on. The biggest stage is the legendary large orange canopy stage, previously owned by the Rolling Stones. This is where the big stadium rock bands perform.
This year i was on stage camera operator for The Minds of 99, Pharrell Williams, Ryan Adams, Florence + the Machine, Marie Key, Disclosure, Mew and Barrington Levy.
Obviously I was mostly looking forward to see Pharrell Williams, after making the Happy – We Are From Dahab video. And he did not let me down. He presented a set comprised of all his greatest hits.
The big surprise for me this year was Florence + the Machine. Wow that girl can sing. I had never really paid attention to the band before, and i only recognised one song. But the entertainment level was in top. This opinion was in no way caused by running into Simon Murton, one of the bands drivers, in a biker bar the night before. I had met him 5 years before, when he was diving in Dahab.
