I have been taking photos on and off most of my adult life. In my early 20s it was dia positives during my travels around Latin America. Then a brief period of black & white photography, where I found that I really enjoyed the work in the dark room.
But at some point I went into video and film work, and the still photography was put on hiatus. Maybe having my super Nikon SLR stolen had a little to do with that as well, but i never really liked having to wait days or weeks to get the film developed to see my results.
When I started working with video, we were still shooting and editing analogue. It was slow work, and the loss of quality in tape to tape edits, meant that we only had one or two tries, to getting it right. But at least I was not relying on a lab to process my raw footage. We could shoot, edit and show a short film in less than 24 hours. When digital video was introduced I was one of the first movers. I bought my first DV camera and an Avid editing suite. For years after that, I was busy working on feature films, music videos and a lot of live concert films.
When I got my first DSLR, I got hooked on still photography again. Finally I could “develop” my own colour pictures. At first it was in Photoshop, then Aperture and now I am almost only using Lightroom.
